Itching Ears
The Word of God reminds us that the time will come when men, those calling themselves Christians, will not endure sound doctrine but, seeking to satisfy their own desires, shall search out teachers who will tell them what they want to hear (II Timothy 4:3). These self-proclaimed Christians shall turn their ears from the truth, preferring to listen to fables (II Timothy 4:4). Well, guess what? That time has come, and many if not most, are twisting the Word of God to their own destruction, just as the scriptures said they would (II Peter 3:16). This may come as a shock, but there is no Easter bunny, no Santa Claus and the Lord Jesus Christ is not creeping back to earth silently like a common thief, to steal away those He paid for with His own, precious, sinless, blood. If you're expecting to be removed from this planet before that terrible period known as "The Great Tribulation", you're going to be seriously disappointed. God is not a respecter of persons (Acts 10:34); He shows no favoritism. He does not change, (Malachi 3:6) nor does His son Jesus (Hebrews. 13:8). Since the fall of man in the Garden of Eden, man's flesh has been under the sentence of death and God has not been overly preoccupied with it.
[24.2]
God Is Changeless
It would seem that God is far more concerned about our eternal lives, than with our physical beings (Job 14:1-2). God allowed the children of Israel to suffer under the cruel oppression of Pharaoh for four hundred years. He allowed his prophets to be persecuted and murdered throughout the pages of Scripture. Did He not allow His only begotten Son to die on a Roman cross, or the Apostles to be beaten, imprisoned, tortured and killed? If He allowed all this, then why, in a generation where even more of His servants are being slain and more sin tolerated, would He make a special way of escape not provided to others who loved Him equally? How could He represent himself as a righteous judge and permit such injustice? The answer is obvious; He won't. It's amazing to me, how we can simply decide what we want, or don't want to accept, in God's Word. When we find something we don't like, we just change it; we twist it to fit our own selfish desires. Don't teachers who teach such lies realize they are under a stricter judgment (James. 3:1)? Don't teachers realize that when they fail to give proper warning to God's children, or when they allow His children to blindly follow lies, the blood of those led astray will be on their hands (Ezekiel. 3:18)? Remember, teachers, it is a fearful thing to fall into the hands of the living God (Hebrews. 10:31). There is no excuse. Teachers should neither teach falsely, nor attempt to teach that which they themselves fail to understand.
[24.3]
Why do we teach the flock of Christ that He will return for them before the “Great Tribulation”? Why speculate when Christ Himself answers this question for us. Standing outside the temple, the "big question" was asked and answered. First, Christ prophesied that not one temple stone would be left upon another. Then the disciples used this opportunity to ask the "big question". "Tell us", they said, "when shall these things be and what shall be the sign of Thy coming, and the end of the world?" (Matthew 24:3).
[24.4]
Two Appearances Only
Christ had already come once as a babe in Bethlehem and now stood before them as that babe grown to manhood. Now His disciples are asking Him when He'll come again. According to scripture, He can only appear twice. He has already appeared once and therefore, can only appear once more, after ascending to the right hand of the Father. Yes, Christ can only appear one more time for the purpose of salvation (Hebrews. 9:27). He will return as promised to raise us, redeem us, and rescue us from death. In the meantime He has been preparing a place for us to abide with Him forever (John 14:3).
[24.5]
Before this second and final appearance, two things must take place. First there must come a great spiritual falling away and the son of perdition must be revealed. He shall attempt to impersonate Christ, so that posing as Christ, he can deceive many. This son of perdition, this antichrist, will give life to an image, a statue or idol and demand that all who refuse to worship this thing be put to death (II Thessalonians 2:3,4). He will come into power as a broker of peace, establishing covenants with warring factions who desire to take Jerusalem. During this period the final earthly temple will have been built in Jerusalem and worship will have begun together with sacrifice (Daniel 11:31, Daniel 9:27). This antichrist will make Israel his home, and will, at the appointed time, cause the temple worship and sacrifice to be stopped. He will sit in the temple, in the seat of power, proclaiming himself to be God. From this position he will issue the edict to destroy all who do not worship the image of the beast (Daniel 9:27, II Thessalonians 2:4, Matthew 24:15, Revelation 13:15).
[24.6]
Those who carry out this massacre will begin at the temple of Jerusalem and go out from there. This event marks the beginning of the Great Tribulation (Revelation 11:2). Two prophets of God will prophesy for three and one half years bringing judgments upon the disobedient but they shall be slain in the streets of Jerusalem. After three and one half days these prophets shall be taken up (Probably Enoch and Elijah.) (Revelation 11:3-12).
[24.7]
Beginning Of Sorrows
Before the church is faced with it's greatest test, that period called the Great Tribulation, it will have to deal with several preceding periods of testing known as the "beginning of sorrows" (Matthew 24:8). These will sweep over the world like galloping horseman (Matthew 24:4-13). First will come a flood of deceivers and deceptive doctrine followed by wars and rumors of wars. After this, famine, caused by pestilence and earthquake and finally the mother of them all, the Great Tribulation, bringing with it hatred, betrayal, deception, imprisonment, torture and murder; this time will be unlike any other previously experienced in history (Matthew 24:21, Revelation 6:1-8, Daniel 7:1-26, Revelation 12:17, Revelation 13:1-18).
[24.8]
Let's name in order each of these periods. Let’s call the first “The White Horse”. He carries a rider who imitates Christ, one armed with a bow, hunting souls to deceive and destroy. We'll call this symbol, i.e. the white horse, deception. Following this, let's call the next period “The Red Horse” because he is the color of blood and carries a sword. He represents war. After this, will come the period that we will call “The Black Horse” of famine and finally, the most terrible period of all, we will identify as “The Pale Horse” and this period will combine the evils of it's predecessors and add many more (Revelation 6:1-8).
[24.9]
The Great Tribulation
The Pale Horse of the Great Tribulation will be a time of distress like never before; not even the Jewish holocaust of World War II will compare. Christians who have not heeded the advice of Scripture; those who have not heard the call of God and been called to His place of refuge, will be hunted, imprisoned, tortured and murdered. If we don't learn the plan God has prepared for our protection than we will fall like wheat before the sickle. God will extend help to those who heed His warning. It may seem like a little, but a little help from God will be all that's needed.
[24.10]
While the antichrist hunts the flesh and souls of men God will be systematically pouring out judgments upon the children of disobedience (Revelation 12:6, Revelation 8, 9, 10, 11). Seven times God's trumpet will sound and seven times judgments will fall. Like the children of Israel in Egypt, the plagues will come but will not touch God's people. Only those who have turned their backs on God and on His Word need fear God's wrath.
[24.11]
There will be those of us who understand His message, His final warning, men of wisdom who will teach and lead God's people to those places where God has established sanctuary. Even so, many will be deceived and many will fall by fire and sword for many days (Daniel 11:33,34). Satan incarnate will make war with the saints of God and will overcome them; yes, I said, overcome them; but not in the spirit, only in the flesh. Martyrs will be made at a rate so fast that no scribe will be able to write quick enough to record their names. No matter, for God knows them (Daniel 7:21, Revelation 11:7, Revelation 12:17, Revelation 13:4-7).
[24.12]
This satanic hunting season will last for three and one half years and then, when the final trumpet sounds, there will be silence followed by our rescue (Revelation 12:6, Revelation 13:5, Revelation 8:1). The redeemed, both living and dead, will be resurrected by Christ.
[24.13]
Retaliation
United with Christ in the air, the tide of battle will quickly turn and victory will be the Lord's. For three and one half years the spiritually dead, weak and unprepared will be receiving the mark of the beast, the mark which allows them to buy and sell, while God's children, those who are prepared, will be living off the stores they have put up for this very time. They will have found their place in the wilderness, the place that God has called them to, and there they will remain and survive, until the day of Christ's return. Others will foolishly take up the sword and try to resist the enemy with violence but will by violence be defeated (Revelation 13:8, 16, 17, Revelation 12:6, Revelation 13:10). Only those who have rightly divided the word of truth and had the faith and courage to follow it will have the chance to survive and experience the coming salvation of their Lord (II Timothy 2:15).
[24.14]
Survival
Those among the redeemed, who are skilled in wilderness survival, will have the opportunity to use their skills on behalf of God's children. The time will come when all of God's signs shall reveal the moment of truth, the moment when we must leave our homes and businesses and be guided by God to that place of refuge He has prepared and brought to our attention. (Matthew 24:16-21, Revelation .3:10, Revelation 13:7, 8).
[24.15]
If you watch Jerusalem for the correct time you will know when it's time to head for your wilderness location (Matthew 24:32-35). Wilderness preparation means looking ahead, being guided by God in advance to the place he has selected. It means carrying to that place provisions sufficient enough to survive for three and one half years. It also means being prepared with the necessary survival skills to sustain life under the most adverse conditions. Knowing when and how to forsake all will be critical to survival. If you don't know how to let go or tell time by the prophetic clock, i.e. Jerusalem, then your chances of survival are minimal (Matthew 24:32-35, Luke 14:33). Jesus said, "When ye therefore shall see the abomination of desolation, spoken of by Daniel the prophet, stand in the holy place, who so readeth, let him understand."
[24.16]
Who or what is this abomination (Matthew 24:15)? Who is this antichrist, this false prophet, this great deceiver? He is the little horn of Daniel seven. He is the horn that is stouter than the other horns; the one with eyes and a mouth that speaks things of great spiritual magnitude (Daniel 7:20, Revelation 13:5,6). In Daniel eight he is the "king of fierce countenance" and in Daniel nine he is the "prince that shall come", the one that makes desolate (Daniel 9:24-27, Daniel 8:23). As the little horn, he comes out of the beast (Rome) as do other political leaders, but he has a broader base of power than they (stouter) for he has authority in two arenas, political and spiritual (Daniel 7:21, Revelation 13:5-7, Ephesians 6:12).
[24.17]
The Prophet, The Beast And The Image
We know from history that the beast that produced him was political Rome and where he operated from a seat of political power through Rome's corrupt anti-christian leadership. This began from Caesar's reign, continued through the apostolic period on into the day of the Roman Emperor Constantine who joined the institutional church to the state. He remains within this stronghold to this very day, if not in the flesh then certainly in spirit. He is the abomination that makes desolate, Matthew 24:15, the antichrist of I John 2:18, the son of perdition in II Thessalonians 2:3, the dragon of Revelation 12:3, 13, 17 and he is the mouth of the beast in Revelation 13:5. This antichrist is the spokesman of Satan; he speaks for the beast in the same way that Christ speaks for God. Christ became flesh, just as the son of perdition will one day be revealed in the flesh (John 1:14). He is the false prophet of Revelation 16:13, 19:20, 20:10 and finally, he is the second beast, the one with two horns like a sheep (Revelation 13:11) coming disguised as the lamb of God as a man, impersonating Christ, but executing the will and word of the beast he represents and is (Revelation 13:11-14, II Thessalonians 2:9-11). There are three characters that will play their role when the Spirit of God, which now blocks their entry, moves aside allowing them to enter in power. The first beast is Rome as seen in the record of history. This beast has not changed; it was political Rome in the Old Testament and is now become spiritual Rome in the New Testament. This old political beast was created and given power by the dragon called the devil and Satan whose son now represents the second beast. The beast watches, it observes, it supports, it carries both political and spiritual might and the world recognizes its power (Revelation 13:4).
[24.18]
The second beast, the false prophet or antichrist comes posing as Christ, deceiving the world into believing he is Christ by the signs and wonders he is able to do (II Thessalonians 2:9). He represents spiritual Rome; he is the head of spiritual Rome. This beast with both body and head continues to practice on a huge scale, what has always been his practice on a more limited scale, the destruction of truth and those who hold it. In the early church, the first beast took the lives of thousands of first century converts, sending them to the Roman arena to be burned or devoured by wild animals and gladiators. In the middle ages, this beast took the lives of thousands of believers during the period known as the Protestant reformation, by burning and drowning both Protestants and the non-violent Anabaptists, who were slaughtered all across Europe for their failure to ignore God's truth and submit to the dictates of religious Rome and its spiritual head.
[24.19]
Finally, we come to the image of the beast, an idol which the false prophet brings to life. What Roman idol most represents spiritual Rome? What image has always been at the forefront of spiritual Rome? What image is the most revered in spiritual Rome? I believe it to be the ever virgin holy mother of god known as Mary. More idols or, if you prefer, statues or images of her have been made, sold and worshiped than any other figure in history. She has been mystically seen all over the world and is now under consideration for deification by spiritual Rome, i.e. the Catholic Church. The ever virgin Mary cannot be the mother of the baby Jesus, for that Mary had other children; the Roman Mary had no other children, according to Roman Catholic doctrine, so then she, like the false prophet, is a counterfeit and a fake (Revelation 13:15, Mark 6:3).
[24.20]
The False Prophet Called Antichrist
What about the antichrist? Who is the antichrist? Could it be a Pope, not necessarily this Pope, but a future Pope? On the highest spiritual occasions he, the Pope, is seen wearing his white priestly robe. The hat upon his head is conical in design coming to two points on top. Could it be that each point represents one of the two beasts of Revelation? Both hat and garment belong to the Roman church and the same or identical costume is worn by all Rome's pontiffs. The uniform belongs to the Roman church (the beast) but is worn by a man, "Count the number of the beast for it is the number of a man" (Revelation 13:18). Let us remember the beast is represented by the number "666" and the man (false prophet) is also. As stated before, Satan will be represented by the son of perdition, a man sent by him to impersonate Christ. He will do this just before the true Jesus appears in the air to gather His church. Before this can happen, the people of the world will have been conditioned to believe in a false system of Christianity, a process well advanced today. The Lord has given His people an unmistakable clue. Those deceived into worshipping the beast or his image will be marked with a name or number which will not only identify them but will identify the false prophet and beast as well.

VICARIUS FILII DEI is Latin for VICAR OF THE SON OF GOD, and from a publication written by Catholic authorities, we read the following, "The title of the Pope of Rome is VICARIUS FILII DEI and if you take the letters of his title which represents Latin numerals (Printed large) and add them together they come to 666." [Our Sunday Visitor, Nov 15, 1914.] One of the early names for the Pope was PONTIFEX MAXIMUS. This in Latin means Supreme Pontifex. It was the name for the pagan chief Prince of Roma long before the Roman Catholic Church became history. The Pope has had a number of titles down through the centuries. Here are two in Latin with their meanings. DUX CLERI - which means Captain of the Clergy, and LUDOVICUS - which means the Chief Vicar of the Court of Rome.

[24.25]
False Prophet And Pontiff
When you see the Pope, acting as a peace broker in the middle east, especially Jerusalem, watch out, for the ground work is being laid for his ultimate day of power. This is the day when he stops the sacrifice in the temple, brings the statue of Mary to life and orders all who will not worship her put to death and those who do, to be marked. The poor deceived beast, the Catholic Church, will believe in their hearts that this is justice but it will be nothing short of the mass genocide of true and faithful believers (Daniel 11:23,24, Daniel 9:27, Revelation 13:15, Matthew 24:24).
[24.26]
What we need to understand, is that when that time comes, it will already be too late for some. Too late for some with small babies, too late for some who attempt to flee on the Sabbath, too late for some to even leave their house top to retrieve their coat (Matthew 24:16-20).
[24.27]
Jesus said the abomination of desolation or antichrist will stand in the holy place. What holy place? The only holy place, where worship and sacrifice are going on, would have to be the temple at Jerusalem. So then there must first be a temple (Matthew 24:15, II Thessalonians 2:4, Daniel 9:27). Though there is no temple in Jerusalem now, there soon will be.
[24.28]
For better than a quarter century now the Jews have been assembling all the costly materials necessary to once again, build their sacred temple and they have been training priests in temple service. The site desired for its construction, the traditional location where Solomon's Temple once stood, is the subject of dispute. An important Arab Mosque is now sitting in close proximity. The politics, violence and volatility of the present political climate make it unlikely that construction will begin at this time but as soon as any form of peace and stability returns construction will most certainly begin. Watch the news; keep your eyes on Jerusalem, especially items that focus on the temple.
[24.29]
Remember, the overspreading of abominations begins in the middle of the last seven years of Daniel's seventy week prophecy (Daniel 9:24-27) and involves worship and sacrifice which means there must be a temple in Jerusalem. Watch for the temple, wait for the temple, and when construction begins, expect to hear from God. The length of time from when the first sacrifice is offered to the moment when the antichrist is revealed and the worship and sacrifice halted, will be three and one half years. This means, as Christians, we have whatever time it takes to build the temple, plus three and one half years to prepare for the greatest persecution in history. Don't miss the signs; watch for the temple and have the faith and courage necessary to allow God to deliver you from the hand of Satan.
[24.30]
Blind Deceivers
Many of the theological giants of today teach that we will not get to see the Pale Horse. They teach that the church will never be overtaken by The Great Tribulation. They teach that the church will be caught up together with Christ before the day of tribulation comes. How can this be? Those that are alive at the time of His coming cannot precede the dead in Christ according to scripture (I Thessalonians 4:15).
[24.31]
Christ is clearly teaching His disciples about His coming (Matthew 24:3) and they are all now dead. Correct? Therefore, we cannot precede them in the resurrection. Right? Then why does Jesus tell them that He will come for them immediately after the tribulation (Matthew 24:29-31)? After the tribulation. See it? After the tribulation. If He doesn't come for them until after how can we, who are alive, go before?
[24.32]
Not only do most teachers teach that we are not going to be here during the tribulation but that the Great Tribulation itself is seven years long. On what basis do they anchor such a claim? Not on Daniel's seventy-week prophecy, I hope (Daniel 9:24-27). The overspreading of abominations that makes desolate (Tribulation) doesn't begin until the middle of the week, or if you prefer the middle of the period of seven and continues till the end of the seven. From the middle of seven till the end of seven is clearly three and one half (Daniel 8:25, Daniel 12:7, Revelation 12:14, Revelation 11:2, Revelation 12:6, Revelation 13:5).
[24.33]
Some will argue that the whole seven year period is called the tribulation. Who calls the whole seven years a tribulation period? Not Daniel, nor Christ; unless there is trouble or distress, there is no tribulation and there is no trouble or distress indicated in the first half of the period of seven (Daniel 9:27). While on the subject of seven, a study of this period reveals that while Satan ravages the church of God, God is bringing judgment on the children of disobedience, those who persecute the church. This judgment comes in the form of seven judgments brought on them by God and announced by seven trumpets (Revelation chapters 8 thru 11).
[24.34]
If Christ were coming before the Great Tribulation He would appear before any of the trumpets sound or perhaps at the first sounding but He doesn't make His appearance until the last trumpet or in other words at the end of the Great Tribulation (I Corinthians 15:51-52).
[24.35]
The Coming Of Christ
He comes, traveling from east to west, descending while circling the globe, then like a comet leaving its orbit He descends to earth. We know this because this is the only way in which every eye could see His coming. You can be sure that every eye will see His coming (Revelation 1:7). This is another reason you can be certain that He's not coming as a thief. Some thief, that comes to steal while everyone is watching (Revelation 1:7)!
[24.36]
Like a comet with a long tail, Christ descends with the armies of heaven trailing, drawing closer with every revolution. As they near the planet, coming into plain view, the resurrection will begin; first with the departed saints followed immediately by those who remain alive at His coming. Assembled together with Him we can look down and see the armies that surround Jerusalem scattered across the plains of Megiddo now called Armageddon (Revelation 16:13-21). The Lord rains down fire upon them and the battle begins (Revelation 19:11-21). We who were alive at His coming were changed in the wink of an eye. In one brief moment our eyes closed in death and as mortality fell away and in that same moment we took on immortality. Our old bodies were changed to new bodies not made with hands and we, both living and dead, were changed into His glorious likeness (I Corinthians 15:51, 52).
[24.37]
For three and one half years the enemy of Christ and His church has been persecuting the woman, i.e. the church, (Revelation 12:17) but now it's the day of His return and our enemies are trying to hide from His face wishing the mountains would fall on them but there is no escape (Revelation 6:16,17).
[24.38]
Having been gathered by His Holy angels from the four winds of heaven, (Matthew 24:31) we have become part of the invading army of God. We, together with the legions of God, have become an assault force, returning to earth with our Lord and bringing wrath upon all that refused Him, all who have worshiped the beast, all who have blasphemed the Holy Spirit, all who have imprisoned, tortured, hunted and murdered the saints of God during this holocaust (Joel 2:1-11). At last it is our turn; we run upon the house tops and enter their hiding places like thieves looking for spoil. We put to death all who have opposed our Savior and His church (Joel 2:9). In our path the earth remains untouched but behind us is only smoldering desolation, burning and destruction. The works of the earth have been consumed in the fires of God's wrath and nothing escapes alive. The earth is purged and prepared for replanting like a farmer burning off last year’s corn stalks, scorching the ground, before replanting. The earth though blackened for the moment is being prepared and cleansed by fire to bring forth the fresh green promise of new life and a new day (Joel 2:3).
[24.39]
It is a new day and our Lord has promised it to us, a day that will last a thousand years, a day when He will rule and reign with a rod of iron, the rod of instruction, a day when the lion will lie down with the lamb. A day when the devil shall be bound and thrown into the bottomless pit, shut up and sealed for one thousand years (Revelation 20:1-6, Isaiah. 11:6). This will be a day when we will fellowship with our Lord, just as Adam did, in a world without violence among creatures who seek only to live in peace and harmony with each other. Imagine one thousand years to get to know Jesus, to learn who we are in Him, to learn eternal truths and to learn to serve Him throughout His entire creation unconfined by the restraints of territory, time or physical law.
[24.40]
At the close of this millennium, having left our earthly sin one thousand years behind, we will see the great white judgment thrones erected, set up on earth by being cast down to earth from the heavens, twenty-four of them (Revelation 4:4, Revelation 20:4, Revelation 20:11-13, Matthew 19:28). The twelve apostles will be seated on them and the judgment books will be on hand as the judgment of God prepares to begin (Revelation 20:4, Matthew 19:28). Jesus, the lamb of God, will be there as the one who is worthy to break the seven seals and open the little book, the lamb's book of life, the book containing the names of all the redeemed (Revelation 5:5-10, Revelation 20:12-15, Revelation 21:27).
[24.41]
The Second Resurrection
Then, before the judgment begins, the second resurrection looses from bondage all who rejected the Lamb, all who came before God without an acceptable sacrifice for sin. Even the prison which held the devil and his demons will be opened and all the rebellious and unrepenting spirits that were cast down for their betrayal of God; yes, even these hate filled murderers, these fallen angels will once more seek to destroy God's holy people but this time defeat will be swift. Michael and the armies of God will utterly destroy God's enemy, Satan will at last be thrown into the lake of fire where the beast and false prophet already await (Revelation 20:7-10, Revelation 19:20, Revelation 21:8). The earth will become a sun turning into a lake of fire. It will pass away and be no more, but not before we see the New Jerusalem coming down out of heaven adorned as a bride. In that day there will be a new heaven and new earth (II Peter 3:10, Revelation 21:1-2). God shall wipe away all tears from our eyes, there shall be no more death, neither sorrow, nor crying, neither shall there be anymore pain, for the former things will have passed away. He will make all things new and we shall be His people and He shall be our God and as sons we shall inherit all things remaining with Him forever more. Amen (Revelation 21:3-7).

There are many other Scriptures in God's Word that speak to this important subject. The very fact that we can now understand this Final Warning proves beyond doubt that we are living out the closing days of history (Daniel 12:8, 9). This age is fast coming to an end and with it go its death, sorrow and despair. To properly prepare to study these texts you must do three very important things.
1. Clear your mind of hand-me-down doctrine so that you are not putting words in God's mouth.
2. Pray for the anointing of the Holy Spirit to come upon you and light your understanding with the truth no matter who or what it offends.
3. Search the Scriptures, study and try the spirits especially what you have learned here (I John 4:1).
May God bless you and fill you with Spirit-led and Spirit confirmed understanding.
